Review of Tom Ford Spring 2021 Ad Campaign photographed by Tom Ford with models Makala Johnson, Marjan Jonkman, Victor Ndigwe, and Troy Steez
Tom Ford steps back into the role of photographer to capture a decadent and summery new campaign for his Spring 2021 collections.
Embracing womenswear, menswear, and eyewear, the imagery takes a consistent visual approach, letting the colors and patterns of the collection do the talking. With dizzying animal and floral prints and eye-poppingly bright pinks and greens, the collection feels like a heady blast of summer.
Ford amplifies this effect in his photographs by opting for texture and contrast. He captures his models from a slightly overhead angle, so that the images lack a horizon, and the backgrounds feel almost claustrophobically close. Ford creates these backgrounds with maximal texture and color, piling up inflatable pink flamingos or shooting before a wall of lush greenery. All together, each image makes an immediate and alluring visual impact.
With its sumptuous visuals and suggestion of decadent sensuality, the campaign is classic Tom Ford.
