A tale to be told, Versace simplifies its Spring 2018 campaign through a fashion narrative that shares the spirit of feminine power and beauty. As Versace tells the story, “She was the most beautiful woman of Athens. However, her beauty was so incredible that it did not go unnoticed, not even by the gods, and although she was aware of its power, she could not know what it held.” This was the beauty that first influenced the House of Versace. It was the beauty of a woman so invincible that upon meeting the gaze of Medusa, Gianni was inspired to celebrate her beauty and strength through fashion.
Following a runway show and Spring 2018 collection, this recent campaign honored Gianni and his House. Casting an arsenal of top models Christy Turlington, Gisele Bündchen, Gigi Hadid, Naomi Watts and Kaia Gerber, among others, this episodic campaign video series stages the industry’s female influencers on a simple white photo cyc and dresses its cast in the Italian label’s Spring Collection to tell a mesmerizing story of feminine power, beauty and endurance. In telling the story of Medusa, the story of Versace unfolds.
Medusa, neither monster nor god, but rather a woman, is admired for her beauty.
The models reveal the story of the beautiful Medusa who falls victim to a crime and is cursed because of jealously. Yet her beauty and power is never forgotten, and is embodied in Versace’s classic designs and her stone head is the brand’s iconic logo. Donatella’s homage to Gianni draws inspiration not only from Medusa but also from her brother, who employed feminine beauty, power and diversity — a legacy kept alive through this Spring collection and which further informed this campaign.
Versace’s film focuses on fashion’s female influencers, who join forces to share a story of a woman who continues to rule over fashion.
