Unlike the contrasting colors of black and white, young adults often feel the need to blend in. They plan their style and attitudes based on the current trends and are very hesitant to stray from the ‘norm’.
Versus, a diffusion brand of the Milan-based house of Versace, is taking a stand to ‘contrast to the mainstream’. In their Fall 2018 ad campaign, the brand, geared towards a younger audience, chose to ignore what is popular and create their own trends.
Photographer Hanna Moon, along with Stylist Allegra Versace, led the stance by featuring many up-and-coming English models to exhibit their mod squad 60’s graphic expression. According to a press release, “Versus juxtaposes heritage and (r)evolution, action and reaction. High fashion and street style are intertwined between high-heel logo boots and the Anatomia sock sneakers.”
The contrasting patterns shown not only on the clothing but in the background as well are a great way for the company to stand out in the ever-flowing mainstream of fashion.
As long as Versus introduces fresh ideas, they will definitely continue to generate a ‘buzz’. Here is to hoping they never stop marching to their own beat.
