Review of Balenciaga 2022 Ad Campaign by Photographer Stef Mitchell with talent Kim Kardashian, Isabelle Huppert, Tommy Blue, and Marie-Agnès Diene
Balenciaga channels star power and the luxury of simplicity in a new campaign by photographer Stef Mitchell.
Balancing candid, lo-fi intimacy and utmost luxury, Mitchell’s imagery situates the campaign’s stars – most notably Kim Kardashian – in the comfort of their own homes, capturing them in simple, neutral, and evocatively atmospheric portraiture.
Furthering the campaign’s confident sense of the luxury of simplicity, Balenciaga’s entire Instagram presence has been scrubbed and replaced with two of the campaign’s images, while the campaign is shared on their website under the maximally minimal title “Balenciaga Campaign.”
While she has made many noticeable appearances stepping out in Balenciaga (including attending the Met Gala with creative director Demna Gvasalia), it’s the first time Kim K has appeared in a campaign for the brand. It’s a strong move for both parties: Kardashian turns more heads as she cements this as her “Balenciaga era,” while the brand solidifies a powerful partnership.
Through smart partnerships and an effortlessly cool aesthetic, Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga continues to position itself at the peak desirability of contemporary luxury.
