Review of Paul Andrew x Bertoni Valentine’s Day 2023 Ad Campaign
Paul Andrew teams with Argentinian painter and artist Juan Francisco Bertoni to reimagine a look at the designer’s latest shoes in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
For the campaign, the painter uses his signature bright and graphic style – which often intertwines with fashion photography in a sort of mixed-media, found art approach – to illuminate ad images from the brand’s recent Season Two Spring 2023 campaign.
In my collaboration with Paul for Valentine’s Day I wanted the intention of the work to be clear and graphically very dynamic. To take an existing element and transform it into a new one as when we approach love… there is something in us that changes forever.

The resulting trio of mixed-media images, a striking blend of photography, painting, and text, exudes the immediate charm and playfulness of a handmade Valentine’s Day card while maintaining the sense of elegance and intentionality behind Andrew’s designs. It’s a fun way to take an established core identity of the brand and look at it through new eyes, and it’s great to see how Andrew is open to taking his personal artistic interests and combining them with his brand for a sincere and fun celebration of love.
I discovered Juan’s work on Instagram early last year and immediately fell in love with his unique and delicate use of colour and texture. For our Valentine’s collaboration he has taken a trio of my Season Two advertising images, photographed by Luca Khouri, and enhanced them with a feeling of passion and romance using hand-painted crimson brushstrokes.
