Review of Brunello Cucinelli “High Summer” 2023 Ad Campaign by Photographers Hunter & Gatti with models Tasha Tillberg, Marta Aguilar, and Tony Ward
Brunello Cucinelli takes a trip into hazy 70s nostalgia with the new campaign for its High Summer 2023 collection, shot by photography duo Hunter & Gatti.
Leaning into the collection’s lax summer tailoring, wide-leg pants, and crochet dresses, the campaign imagery dives into 70s vibes, drawing a lot of visual impact out of the well-chosen setting of The Record Parlor, an actual and expansive record store in Los Angeles replete with kooky decor, pinball machines, and rock-and-roll ephemera – and seemingly endless crates of records.
Appropriately, the accompanying short film uses music to punctuate the style beats. The musical mood shifts from hazy lounge to early alt-rock to bumping disco, and the characters keep up with corresponding outfit changes and dance moves. While the pacing is a bit weird – it could probably stand to be a little shorter – the film does a good job at conjuring up the music lover’s thrill of finding a hidden gem of a record and losing track of time in the music.
With a familiarly fun narrative and groovy production, the campaign nicely builds out the world of the collection.
