Review of LaQuan Smith Spring 2024 Fashion Show
By Mario Abad
THE COLLECTION
THE VIBE
THE THEME
The overarching theme was a focus on separates where LaQuan’s “essentials” like transparent catsuits were layered with jeans and under statement coats. There were plenty of miniskirts, embossed crocodile, and a focus on tailoring that hugs that body in sharp, sexy proportions. The show opened with a backlit red light emanating from a gate that raised to reveal the first model.
THE BUZZWORDS
Sexy. Powerful. Confident.

THE SHOWSTOPPER
Look # 29
Alton Mason’s silver chain metal top paired with relaxed, baggy cargo jeans made the biggest impact with its styling and idea of contrasts.

THE DIRECTION
Mary J. Blige, Vivica A. Fox, and Kimora Lee Simmons were just a few of the strong women who lined the front row, all of whom had long inspired Smith growing up.
THE QUOTE

“I just wanted to design a collection that felt very modern, very futuristic, very sexy, and just progressive thinking. I used a lot of leather in the collection and balanced it with denim, viscose and mesh groups. This wasn’t a collection that was fixated on one particular piece, it was very heavy in separates.”
THE WRAP UP
While he didn’t necessarily introduce many new design elements or give us much in the way of the unexpected, Smith capitalized on what he does best — sexy power dressing for strong, confident women — with another high-energy show and versatile pieces that will give shoppers more ideas when putting outfits together.
