Review of Camilla and Marc Pre-Fall 2024 Ad Campaign by Photographer Sam Armstrong with model Dree Hemingway
Camilla and Marc capture the elusive elegance of a modern muse with the new Pre-Fall 2024 campaign shot by photographer Sam Armstrong
One of the brand’s smartest assets is its unique and meaningful approach to casting, which in this latest campaign takes shape as actor, model, and mother Dree Hemingway, who brings to life the latest collection of Camilla and Marc’s quietly assertive take on contemporary minimal elegance. Armstrong captures her in minimal studios, on a Paris rooftop, and before an electrifyingly lime-green wall, often shooting from distinct angles that bring out an energy of confidence, coolness, and wisdom.
The accompanying short film deepens the impact of these portraits by setting them in motion and creating a hypnotic rhythm through clever editing.
Handled by a less competent and visionary creative team, the simple, lookbook-like approach to the campaign could have ended up feeling a bit forgettable. Instead, it comes together as a distinct and striking take on that concept of communicative minimalism. Much of this impact is provided by the enigmatic power of Dree Hemingway, but the styling and makeup teams, and even the idiosyncratic approach to setting and set design, do subtly brilliant work to set off the magnetism of this elegant, everyday icon.
