Review of Bottega Veneta ‘Summer Solstice’ 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Matthieu Blazy
Bottega Veneta crafts a gorgeous narrative of indulgent summer adventure with its new Summer Solstice 2024 campaign.
The campaign continues the brand’s direct yet soulful approach to capturing Matthieu Blazy’s deceptively simple design principle of craft in motion, but fills it with new meaning in connection to its geographical setting. Dramatic lava-rock formations provide an intense textural contrast to the delicate knits, supple leather, and sculptural gold hardware details of the collection, while the sea remains an omnipresent power.
Some images make clever use of environmental storytelling. Rather than centering on models, the focus is one what they have left behind on the shore as they venture into the water – a towel, an intrecciato bag, and a pair of mules. It’s a smart way to highlight the product while emphasizing the way it takes on direction and character in connection to a larger, personal narrative.
Meanwhile, other images take shape as sun-kissed headshots of the striking cast. Embodying the eclectic character of the house, these portraits are also a nice way to showcase the chunky yet delicate jewelry of the collection, further enriching the color palette that infuses soft blues, greens, and earth tones with vibrant flashes of gold and red-orange.
Aptly embodying the feeling of lush freedom and endless sun suggested by its “Summer Solstice” title, the campaign is another gorgeous example of Bottega Veneta’s ability to tell the story of craft.
