The Prominent Chanel Flagship Is the Second Avenue Montaigne Store Targeted This Week
In the early morning of Monday, the Chanel boutique on Avenue Montaigne in Paris was subjected to a smash-and-grab robbery. At approximately 5:15 a.m., four suspects used a vehicle to ram the storefront, breaking the windows to gain access and subsequently stealing merchandise.
The perpetrators initially crashed into the boutique, shattering the windows to enter, then set the first vehicle on fire before escaping in a second vehicle. Responding firefighters extinguished the blaze. “The individuals used a first vehicle to enter the establishment by breaking the window before fleeing in a second vehicle, taking goods from the store,” a police source disclosed to French media sources.
A spokesperson for Chanel confirmed the incident, stating, “We confirm that a ram-raid occurred in the Chanel boutique, located at 42 avenue Montaigne in Paris, during the night of June 9 to 10, 2024. Fortunately, no employees were injured.” The spokesperson added that a police investigation is underway and that the company is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
The boutique will remain closed while the extent of the damage is assessed. “The amount of the loss is unknown at this stage. The shop will remain closed for a few days while the damage is repaired,” the spokesperson further noted.
Spanning 6,500 square feet and two floors, the store features private salons on the first floor, catering to VIP clients.
This robbery marks the second such incident on Avenue Montaigne in recent weeks, following a theft at the Harry Winston store on May 19, where thieves escaped with several million euros worth of jewelry. The earlier incident is still under investigation, with estimated losses ranging between 6 million and 10 million euros.
