Israeli Designer Hed Mayner Unveils Bold and Unique Collection at Paris Fashion Week
“A chunk of wood buckled to the foot,” was how Hed Mayner described one of the key shoe styles in this collection, which had a “Mad Max” vibe and a lot of attitude. Mayner, who’s not from Max’s home, Australia, but from the equally hot and desert-y Israel, has never been shy since launching his unisex label in 2015.
Models strutted down the runway in wood and strappy leather clogs, sporting clothes large enough to fit two or three people. T-shirts featured abstract swirls, while cotton shirts were layered over shorts or jeans, cinched with wide cotton belts-cum-cummerbunds, creating a medieval feel.
Suits were drapey and voluminous, some more formally tailored, while others featured bomber-style jackets with softly rounded shoulders. Vests in recycled leather or linen had deep V-necks and looked as if giants crafted them.
The collection also showcased boxy clogs, Neoprene or silk flak vests, strappy leather jackets, and denim utility shorts with large patch pockets, all exuding a “Mad Max” aesthetic. One of the standout pieces was a draped and slashed cable knit sweater resembling a sword encounter.
Mayner aimed to create shape, curve, and definition while allowing the wearer to stay cool in the heat and strike a pose. “I wanted to create a sense of intimacy between the garment and the person wearing it,” said the designer, dressed in white layers. “For me, I know a certain energy comes with wearing these clothes.”
Mayner’s collection showcased a unique approach to power dressing, focusing on oversized proportions and distinct silhouettes to change body language and evoke a new sense of confidence.
