The Limited-Edition Line Fuses the Independent Spirits of Two Iconic Brands
Palace, the London-based skatewear brand known for its unconventional collaborations, has teamed up with the iconic fashion house Vivienne Westwood for a new collection. The collaboration, titled “Palace Vivienne Westwood,” celebrates the shared ethos of independence and rebellion that both brands embody, drawing deeply from their mutual roots in London.
“Palace is independent, Vivienne Westwood is independent, and we admire independence,” said Lev Tanju, co-founder of Palace. Tanju collaborated with Vivienne Westwood’s Creative Director Andreas Kronthaler to bring the collection to life. “Collaborating with Vivienne Westwood, it’s a massive thing for us: we love them, and we always have. To bring this collection to life was a dream come true, and we wanted to shoot the collection in London, our shared home.”
Kronthaler expressed a similar sentiment about the partnership, stating, “From the first day I went to Palace years ago, I liked what they are doing. Their designs are made with quality, they are accessible and democratic. It felt natural for us to join forces, it was a very playful exercise, and it was a pleasure working with the team and making new friends.”
The “Palace Vivienne Westwood” collection spans clothing, accessories, and skateboards, incorporating some of Westwood’s most iconic designs and motifs. Highlights include a 1992 ‘Salon’ print reproduced on a Gore-Tex hooded jacket and Westwood’s signature tartan patterns. The collaboration also brings Palace’s irreverent touch to Westwood’s world, with pieces like a classic Vivienne Westwood corset imprinted with an image of Tanju’s dog, Stuart.
“This collection is a true reflection of our shared values and influences, bringing together two distinct perspectives united by a common ground of independent thought, all with a uniquely London twist,” said Gareth Skewis, who co-founded Palace with Tanju. The collection also introduces a new logo that combines Palace’s signature triangle with the Vivienne Westwood orb.
The collaboration is further brought to life through a series of images produced in partnership with Japanese street-style magazine FRUiTS and its founder Shoichi Aoki. The looks, captured in Aoki’s distinctive style, feature a diverse cast of models and personalities, including DJ Josh Café, model Issa Lish, activist Sibyl Buck, and American musicians Semetary and Matt OX. The images will be featured in a limited-edition zine that will be distributed with each purchase.
“Palace Vivienne Westwood” will launch globally on Friday, September 6, 2024, available in Palace and Vivienne Westwood stores, as well as Dover Street Market locations in London, Los Angeles, and Tokyo. Given the buzz, it is expected to sell out quickly.
