Beauty and fragrances continues to be a bigger and bigger market, with more brands expanding further into the segment each season – especially as the category can offer resilience when fashion itself is more susceptible to the international luxury slowdown. Fall 2024’s best beauty campaigns reflected this growth with more investment into creativity, cadence, and digital strategy, building out brand visions that both capture the timelessness of beauty and the quickly shifting pace of contemporary digital communication.
Fashion houses that also encompass beauty lines have the simultaneous advantage and challenge of incorporating beauty imagery into their fashion aesthetic. Celine’s highly anticipated first-ever cosmetics collection nailed this balance with a seamless extension of Hedi Slimane’s consistent vision for the brand. Loewe similarly continued to embody the power of art direction in terms of layout and graphic design, extending that perspective from its fashion campaigns seamlessly into its fragrances. Dior embarked on a new era for J’Adore with the introduction of Rihanna as brand ambassador, but kept very close to its familiar aesthetic direction for its star fragrance.
Other strong campaigns featured a strategic leveraging of social media. Charlotte Tilbury was a standout in this category, hosting its “Beauty Show” across Instagram and TikTok with an extensive series of hilarious and playfully glamorous clips featuring an impressive and eclectic celebrity cast. Dior wisely extended the media value of its runway show assets by creating a documentary-style beauty campaign film out of the backstage makeup process of its Cruise show in Scotland.
