Skims and Dolce & Gabbana share a stunning cinematic exploration of the tension between tradition and liberation with the new campaign in celebration of their collaborative collection. The campaign was shot and directed by Nadia Lee Cohen.
The limited-edition collection brings together the two brand’s design visions, synthesizing Skims’ innovation crafted for comfortable and flattering fits with Dolce & Gabbana’s bodacious and opulent glamor. Kim Kardashian has served as a face and muse for Dolce & Gabbana numerous times before, so bringing their brands together feels like a natural and exciting evolution. It’s also a smart continuation of Skims’ careful approach to high-end designer collaborations (which previously included Fendi).
Cohen’s imagery takes as its backdrop a nostalgic look at the quintessentially Italian lifestyle and culture, drawing on classics of Italian cinema. Yet among these scenes that are a quaintly idealized vision of 60s Italian life, two modern bombshells appear: Kim and Kourtney. Though their hairstyles and attitudes may ape the humble heroines of Fellini films, their sheer corsets and leopard-print bodysuits cut a provocatively liberated figure, filling this picturesque pastiches with an energetic and sensual tension.
Not only is the imagery richly realized and gorgeously executed, but it feels like a perfect synthesis of the two brands’ identities, balancing tradition and liberation, comfort and sensuality. Mamma mia, Kim has done it again.
