Directed by Ken-Tonio Yamamoto, the Film Highlights the Creative Community at Stone Island’s Headquarters
Stone Island presents Infinite Colours, a feature-length documentary film by director Ken-Tonio Yamamoto. Released today on the brand’s official YouTube channel, the film offers an intimate look at the community of employees at Stone Island’s headquarters in Ravarino, Italy. Described by Yamamoto as a “docu-poem,” the film blends documentary elements with poetic visuals.
Filmed entirely within the research-driven hub in Emilia-Romagna’s industrial district, Infinite Colours provides a unique perspective on the people behind the brand. Yamamoto explains, “Stone Island is all about infinite colours – not just the shades of its garments, but the endless creativity behind them. The title Infinite Colours is a nod to this approach, a way of thinking about possibilities and opportunities, brought to life by a community of people who turn bold visions into reality.”
The film opens with striking nighttime shots of the Stone Island headquarters, setting the tone for what Yamamoto describes as the brand’s “spirit.” As day breaks, the building comes alive with employees engaged in every stage of the production process, from sourcing raw materials to garment construction, dyeing, washing, and archiving. Yamamoto focuses exclusively on the voices of employees, bypassing the designers and leadership to spotlight the collective effort behind Stone Island’s creations.
The film also features iconic Stone Island garments, including the pioneering Tela Stella SS ’082, the Pure Metal Shell jackets of AW ’999-’000, and the Kevlar Jackets of AW ’000-’001. These pieces are showcased with an emphasis on their color and materiality, aligning with the film’s celebration of Stone Island’s signature design philosophy.
Infinite Colours debuted earlier this year with a series of exclusive screenings in Los Angeles, London, Crevalcore, and Milan. Following its premiere at Brain Dead Studios in Los Angeles during Frieze Los Angeles, the film was shown at Screen on the Green in London and Teatro Verdi in Crevalcore, as well as Cinema Mexico in Milan. Now, fans worldwide can view it on YouTube starting November 25, 2024.
Ken-Tonio Yamamoto, a long-time collaborator with Stone Island, has worked with the brand for over 15 years on projects ranging from seasonal campaigns to large-scale video installations. Reflecting on his inspiration for the film, he says, “I was always traveling to Ravarino, meeting these people and hearing their amazing stories. That’s when I had the idea to make a film that tells the story of Stone Island through their eyes, from the inside out.”
