Chanel Supports the Academy Women’s Luncheon in LA
The House Supports Woman Filmmakers in Partnership with the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women
Chanel teamed with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to support the Academy Women’s Luncheon at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. The event celebrated the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women, a program dedicated to supporting emerging woman filmmakers.
The luncheon gathered notable figures from all areas of the film industry, including Academy governors and leaders, along with actresses and filmmakers such as Amy Adams, Pamela Anderson, Awkwafina, Gal Gadot, Ariana Grande, Regina King, Mila Kunis, and Sarah Paulson. The event was marked by opening remarks from Academy President Janet Yang and featured a keynote presentation by Emmy- and Grammy-nominated actor and producer Selena Gomez.
During the event, Pam Abdy, Academy Executives Branch governor, presented this year’s Gold Fellowships for Women to Raha Amirfazli and Shadi Karamroudi. Amirfazli, the U.S. fellow, is an Iranian writer, director, and producer studying at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Her film “In the Land of Brothers” won the Directing Award at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. Karamroudi, the non-U.S. fellow from Iran, is known for her work in acting and filmmaking, with recent participation in the Berlinale Talents Labs and Script Station for her script “I Can Hear You Whispering.”
Janet Yang highlighted the significance of the gathering and the partnership with Chanel: “Today, we celebrated the power and unity of women in film as we came together from every discipline within our industry to honor emerging women filmmakers who are inspiring the future of cinema,” said Yang. “A special thank you to our partner Chanel for its generous support and shared commitment to amplifying the voices of talented women filmmakers worldwide. Together, we continue to break barriers and empower the next generation of women in our industry.”
The Gold Fellowship for Women is part of the Academy’s global talent development and inclusion efforts. The program offers a one-year fellowship providing support, personalized mentorship, and networking opportunities, aimed at advancing the careers of woman filmmakers globally. The Academy awards two fellowships annually, one to a filmmaker based in the U.S. and one to a filmmaker from outside the U.S.
