After Debuting in Shanghai Last Year, Loewe’s First Major Exhibition Will Open in Tokyo in March
Loewe has announced that Crafted World, its first major brand exhibition, will be presented in Tokyo in the spring of this year. The exhibition covers 179 years of Loewe’s contributions to fashion and craftsmanship, highlighting its forward-thinking approach. Initially unveiled in Shanghai in 2024, Crafted World is slated to open in Tokyo’s Harajuku district in March 2025. This location holds special significance as Japan was the first market Loewe expanded to outside Europe, establishing a presence there in 1973. Since then, the brand has fostered a deep cultural exchange with the country.
The exhibition is designed in partnership with OMA, a studio known for its innovative architectural work. It will guide visitors through Loewe’s evolution from a Madrid-based leather goods collective established in 1846, to a premier global luxury fashion house. Crafted World celebrates the artistic and cultural essence integral to Loewe, showcasing its historical and recent collaborations, including those with Studio Ghibli and Kyoto ceramics studio Suna Fujita.
In addition to exploring iconic designs, the Tokyo exhibition will feature a series of interactive installations that delve into the creative processes behind Loewe’s recent collections. It will also spotlight the Loewe Foundation’s support for traditional Japanese crafts, such as the crafting of ceremonial Kama tea kettles by the Ōnishi family in Kyoto, a practice spanning over 400 years.
Further enriching the exhibition are works by Loewe Foundation Craft Prize finalists Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, Moe Watanabe, and 2019 winner Genta Ishizuka, as well as pieces from collaborators involved in Loewe’s annual showcase at Salone del Mobile, including ARKO, Hafu Matsumoto, and Jirō Yonezawa.
Crafted World Tokyo will be accessible to the public from 29 March to 11 May 2025, open daily from 9am to 8pm.
