An Opulent Aura, Tactile Femininity, High Octane for High Altitudes

Following Elie Saab’s show-stopping extravaganza in 2024, when the designer hosted the global glitterati in Riyadh to celebrate his 45th anniversary, the cool slopes of Aspen were now on the mind. What could be considered a 180 after he played his part in putting the Middle East on the map as a burgeoning fashion hub and being the brand responsible for Celine Dion’s first performance since she was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome – a performance which brought the crowd to their feet with an extended standing ovation.
Not content with catering to his customers every need when it comes to the lost art of event dressing (cocktail, black tie, resort wear, one mis-step and you could be expelled from the inner circle, but not so with a Saab), especially when a heavily embellished gown, with or without a train, is all that is required, Saab is now setting his sights on the favoured winter pastime of the jet set – skiing. With fall 2025 “inspired by the relaxed glamour of the world’s most exclusive mountain resorts” according to the notes, blending high-octane glamour with comfort couture.
A household name when it comes to old-school opulence, the Elie Saab woman at ease lacks none of the refinement she displays when on her A-game. Here it was all about an interplay between the soft and sculpted as furs (arguably the seasons stand-out trend) in maximalist floor-lengths and sportier hooded styles were draped over those statement sequin gowns as they will be worn when travelling from ski lodge to mountain view dining. The designers intricate bead and lace-work gowns were also interspersed with second-skin snowsuits, stirrup leggings, and chunky belted roll-neck sweaters. But it wasn’t all about fun and frivolity as function played a key role with the clever addition of a tailored accessory in the form of knitted bibs with high-neck collars layered over and under embellished dresses to help stay warm while keeping to the Colorado dress code.

THE DIRECTION
THE WRAP UP
Taking on the “icons of sports luxe” the designers typical flamboyance has met its match with the addition of high-functioning activewear to extend the brands reach to all aspects of the customers lifestyle. Referring to it as “high-altitude style for effortless living” as with many other designers this season Saab is considering ways to expand his reach further and meet the evolving needs of his consumers. And this season that meant catering to their winter resort downtime.
