Inspired by nature and heritage, the collection reimagines sustainable luxury with Italian craftsmanship
On April 22nd, 2025—Earth Day—Ferragamo debuts its Back to Earth capsule collection, a project that reaffirms the brand’s long-standing dialogue between fashion and nature. Inspired by founder Salvatore Ferragamo’s words, “If we give it a way, nature can heal every wound,” the limited-edition line is exclusively available at 26 Ferragamo boutiques worldwide.
Crafted entirely in Italy, the collection embraces a mindful approach to luxury, using natural materials like cotton and silk that are treated with innovative dyeing techniques derived from marble, dyeing earth, and vegetable charcoal. The result is a line that blends form and function, ethics and aesthetics, while staying rooted in Ferragamo’s legacy of creative sustainability.
The house’s interest in eco-conscious materials dates back to the 1940s, when Salvatore Ferragamo—faced with wartime shortages—experimented with straw, cork, and hemp in his footwear. This forward-thinking spirit continues today. The brand launched its first Sustainable Thinking exhibition in 2018 at the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo, and the theme remains central to the company’s mission.
The Back to Earth capsule also introduces a reinvented version of the Hug top-handle bag, developed during the first Ferragamo “Circularity Hackathon,” where 60 of the brand’s youngest talents were invited to reimagine iconic pieces through a circular lens. The limited-edition bag features vegetable-tanned leather, certified organic silk and cotton, and floral leather inlays that nod to its regenerative theme. Echoing the modularity of the Kimo shoe created by Ferragamo in the 1950s, the Hug bag includes a reversible, removable interior pouch designed for versatility and customization.
In footwear, the Back to Earth ballerina takes center stage with a vegetable-tanned leather upper and a natural rubber sole, continuing the capsule’s focus on eco-responsible materials and timeless style.
“Back to Earth is our first capsule dedicated to the Earth. Inspired by the harmony between man and nature, we have fused innovation and heritage, beauty and function, leading a sincere dialogue towards a fashion closer to the wellbeing of people and the Earth that hosts us,” said James Ferragamo.
Even the packaging underscores the capsule’s commitment to sustainability, using recycled paper, cotton, and wood from responsibly managed forests—proving that responsible choices can still speak the language of luxury.
The collection will be available starting Earth Day 2025 on Ferragamo’s website and in selected boutiques across Italy, France, the UK, the US, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the UAE.
