Alejandro G. Iñárritu Brings Multisensory Exhibition to Fondazione Prada

“Sueño Perro: A Film Installation by Alejandro G. Iñárritu,” will mark the 25th anniversary of “Amores Perros,” the Oscar-winning director’s debut feature film

This fall, Fondazione Prada is collaborating with Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu to stage a multisensory film installation at its Milan outpost. The exhibition is a deep exploration of the director’s debut feature film, “Amores Perros,” which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. It’s Fondazione Prada’s third collaboration with Iñárritu, who curated film festival “Flesh, Mind and Spirit” as well as an experimental VR installation, “Carne y Arena.”

The show will be rooted in the intersection of visual art and cinema, opening new perspectives on Iñárritu’s work using “Amores Perros”  as an anchor. It will delve into the cultural and cinematographic dimensions of the critically acclaimed movie, which explores themes of violence, betrayal, and fractured masculinity through three intersecting narratives united by a car crash in Mexico City. Dogs are a reoccurring symbolic presence. Though released a quarter of a century ago, the film remains relevant, with director and president of the Fondazione, Miuccia Prada, praising its ability to capture the complexity of our world with visual and emotional power.

Visitors will be able to view 16 million still frames of unreleased footage, previously uncovered in the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s film archives. They’ll be resurrected through a mosaic of celluloid and sound, which viewers will experience in a dimly lit labyrinth enhanced with 35mm film projectors and a soundscape designed specifically for the exhibition. Additionally, a display by Mexican writer and journalist Juan Villoro will accompany the show. Entitled “Mexico 2000: The Moment That Exploded,” the audiovisual series will help contextualize “Amores Perros” in the tense sociopolitical reality of Mexico City.

“Sueño Perro: A Film Installation by Alejandro G. Iñárritu,” opens September 18 and will run through February 26 at Fondazione Prada. It will also be shown at LagoAlgo in Mexico City from October 5 to January 4, and at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art in spring of 2026.
