Review of Anne Klein Fall 2025 Ad Campaign by Creative Producer Jameel Spencer with Photographer Matt Easton with models Candice Swanepoel, Joan Smalls
When Candice Swanepoel and Joan Smalls take on New York, it isn’t just a campaign—it’s a celebration of friendship, fashion, and a shared sense of purpose. For Fall 2025, Anne Klein doubles down on its core ethos of empowering women, choosing two of fashion’s most recognizable (and refreshingly real) faces to embody that message. Photographed by Matt Easton and directed by JP Micallef, the campaign taps into sisterhood with polish and polish with purpose.
“Women celebrating women” is more than a tagline here—it’s the architecture of the entire concept, as Jameel Spencer of WHP Global puts it: “it is deeply connected to the ethos of our brand.” Set against a quintessentially New York backdrop—Fifth Avenue, Bethesda Terrace, and those ever-iconic Met steps—the campaign positions the Anne Klein woman not as a single archetype, but a spectrum: elegant, driven, grounded, and never without a friend who’ll fix her hair before a photo.
Where the video shines is in tone. It’s flirtatious without trying too hard, capturing real-life affection between the models as they dash from uptown to downtown, from daywear to date night. There’s an effortless rhythm to their banter—Swanepoel’s quiet cool and Smalls’ exuberance play off each other like a late-’90s rom-com duo. This is where the campaign finds its heartbeat. Unfortunately, the still images don’t quite match that kinetic charm. Though impeccably styled by Sandy Armeni and gracefully framed by Easton, the photographs lean too posed, too restrained—lacking the twinkle and momentum that make the video feel alive.
That said, Anne Klein accomplishes a key feat here: honoring a broad swath of its licensed offerings without slipping into catalog territory. The shoes, handbags, watches, and statement dresses feel like part of the story—not product placements, but purposeful accents in a woman’s fast-paced city life. The spirit of New York—the Anne Klein city—is present throughout: direct, ambitious, a little glamorous, and always on the go.
Ultimately, the campaign succeeds in its mission to uplift, even if it occasionally underplays its strongest asset: the electric chemistry between two women who clearly adore one another. In a fashion world often obsessed with the solitary muse, it’s refreshing to see a story built on mutual admiration—and maybe a shared cab.
