Willy Chavarria Curates a New Dialogue Between Fashion, Film, and Humanity

A Shaded View on Fashion Film (ASVOFF) returns for its 17th edition in Paris from November 13 to 16, 2025, once again transforming Dover Street Market Paris into a cinematic hub of fashion and artistic exchange. Founded and directed by Diane Pernet, the pioneering festival continues its reign as fashion’s leading platform for creative film, performance, and dialogue.
This year’s edition welcomes Willy Chavarria as Special Guest Curator, whose emotionally charged design language and cultural activism set the tone for the festival’s conversation. The program spans an ambitious thematic arc — Mental Health in Fashion, AI-Generated Films, Queer Archive, Black Spectrum, Climate Warriors, Fashion Activism, Chinese Fashion Film, and Student Innovation — each exploring the interplay between consciousness, creativity, and craft.
An international jury featuring Marc Ascoli, Martine Sitbon, Fecal Matter, Manish Arora, Pam Hogg, Irina Pantaeva, Eric Daman, M.J. Harper, Ly.As, Pierre A. Mpele (Pam Boy), and Gena Marvin will recognize new cinematic languages shaping the future of fashion storytelling.

The Opening Night will feature a message from Chavarria, the world premiere of Heart of the Valley, and a live performance by Flavio Juan Núñez. Closing night will see the ASVOFF 17 Awards Ceremony introduce the new MAC Beauty Award — a collaboration with M·A·C Cosmetics celebrating beauty as a force for empowerment and visibility. The Official Closing Party, presented and curated by MATTE Projects — the creative agency behind ASVOFF 2024’s Grand Prize winner Safe From Harm with Chavarria — will spotlight a lineup of both local and international talent.
ASVOFF continues to receive the support of Adrian Joffe and Dover Street Market Paris, its home and partner for five consecutive years, where Comme des Garçons’ spirit of radical creativity meets Pernet’s independent cinematic vision.
“In fashion, I don’t want to escape reality,” says Willy Chavarria. “I want to reflect it — the beauty, the struggle, and everything in between — in a way that reminds us of our shared dignity.”
Founded in 2008 by critic Diane Pernet, A Shaded View on Fashion Film is the world’s first film festival dedicated to fashion, style, and beauty. Alongside film screenings, the program encompasses documentaries, performances, and installations, serving as a platform for both emerging and established artists to explore the evolving relationship between fashion and film.
