Balenciaga continues to bring its distinct perspective to classically simple elegance with the new campaign for its Hourglass and Crush bags, captured by photographer Mario Sorrenti.
Sorrenti captures an impressive cast of returning Balenciaga muses – Nicole Kidman, Yang Chaoyue, Mona Tougaard, and Adut Akech – in minimalist studio portraits. The styling is also kept minimal, with denim and black turtlenecks accompanied by gold jewelry centering and setting off the character of the star bags.
The campaign follows up on a visually similar one that highlighted its Rodeo bag and also starred Nicole Kidman. This straightforward, product and personality-centric approach fits within the brand’s wider marketing push that sees it pull back from conceptual stunts and take a more visually direct approach with a simple focus on clothes and the people who wear them, while still maintaining Demna’s archly clever perspective.
