Review of Balenciaga Winter 2023 Ad Campaign by Photographer Tyler Mitchell with models Isabelle Huppert ,Vittoria Ceretti, Minttu Vesala, Arthur del Beato, Nyawurh Chuol, Yura Nakano and Mathieu Simoneau

In a captivating fusion of heritage and innovation, the Balenciaga Winter 23 campaign emerges as a masterpiece of visionary artistry. Paying homage to its birthplace, the French Couture House artfully infuses the essence of its historic address– 10-12 avenue George V, now set to become its Couture and creative headquarters– with the campaign.

Under the lens of acclaimed fashion photographer and filmmaker, Tyler Mitchell, the campaign unveils the metamorphosis of this iconic location. Envisioned as a homecoming, the space undergoes a breathtaking renovation, expanding the existing Couture salons twofold and introducing new ateliers and offices across its six levels.

The Winter 23 Collection, brilliantly portrayed by an ensemble including actress Isabelle Huppert and models Vittoria Ceretti, Minttu Vesala, Arthur del Beato, Nyawurh Chuol, Yura Nakano, and Mathieu Simoneau, reinvents classic poses amidst the backdrop of ongoing construction and diligent workers. The juxtaposition of elegance and progress provides a mesmerizing point of contrast and fertile ground for spontaneous creativity.

At the heart of the collection lies Demna’s fascination with deconstructed tailoring, where traditional pieces like track suits, denim and leather jackets, suiting, and jeans are reborn through inverted or layered interpretations, emblematic of the brand’s unwavering commitment to experimentation and hybridity. Balenciaga’s unique take on Couture silhouettes emerges through pleated blouses and skirts, eveningwear lace, bead-embroidered gowns, fitted sweatsuits, and faux-mink coats, boasting cinched waists and rounded shoulders.

Unveiling an array of new accessories, the Winter 23 line showcases the Monaco Bag series, Anatomic and Biker Boot lines, 3XL Sock Shoe, Flex Pump, Fennec, Speed eyewear, and a reimagining of timeless classics, featuring fresh materials and innovative designs. Among these remarkable pieces are the Le Cagole Collector, Le Cagole Carry All, and Le Cagole Basket; the Crush Sling in floral-printed leather; the Everyday Tote in plush fake fur; the Bulldozer Boot; the Knife Pump in bow-tied Spandex; the Duty-Free in embossed leather; the Triple S in monochrome; the Superbusy Sling, and wallets echoing iconic Balenciaga bag signatures.

As the Winter 23 campaign takes center stage, Balenciaga’s creative vision finds its roots and reaches new heights, celebrating the past while embracing an extraordinary imagined future. With daring flair and intellectual finesse, Demna’s transformative touch cements the brand’s position as a trailblazer in the world of fashion, igniting curiosity and admiration across the industry.
