The Best Women’s Fashion Ad Campaigns of the Fall 2021 Season as chosen by Kenneth Richard
It seems unnecessary to say that the photographer is one of – if not the – most important creative players when it comes to making a fashion campaign, but the Fall 2021 season felt particularly defined by the masterful eyes of fashion’s leading lenspeople.
After a relatively dull few seasons of DIY work-from-home campaigns, it is a delight to peer through their cameras and return to the richness and color of visual life.
Jil Sander tapped legendary street photographer Joel Meyerowitz – who practically never shoots fashion campaigns – to create beautiful, richly colored compositions that balanced naturalism with high drama.
Two prolific, ongoing collaborations between a house and a photographer – Juergen Teller for Saint Laurent and Zoë Ghertner for Chloé – used natural landscapes as gorgeous, emotive backdrops, though with very different approaches and resulting moods.
Mert & Marcus highlighted the psychosexual beauty and sensual intellectualism of Gucci’s Aria collection with a fittingly liberated-yet-sophisticated campaign.
Bottega Veneta takes home the top spot thanks to the understated work of Tyrone Lebon, who draws an intoxicating visual world out of photography’s most primary elements: color, light, and time.
Here are The Impression’s picks for the Top 10 Women’s Campaigns of Fall 2021 as selected by our Chief Impressionist, Kenneth Richard.
