A Comprehensive Look at the Brand’s History, Impact, and Craftsmanship
Birkenstock is marking 250 years of shoemaking with the launch of The Book of Birkenstock, a visual encyclopedia showcasing the brand’s evolution from a small shoemaker’s workshop to a globally recognized name. The publication highlights the company’s legacy of craftsmanship, innovation, and cultural relevance, tracing its influence on subcultures and fashion over the decades.
Designed by Munich-based Bureau Borsche and co-published with Steidl Publishers, the 688-page book dives into Birkenstock’s extensive archive. It features black-and-white and color images, including early advertisements, original photography, marketing materials, and editorial content from around the world. Fans can also see iconic campaign visuals, fashion editorials, and snapshots of Birkenstocks in everyday life. “This book is a testament to BIRKENSTOCK’s commitment to excellence and craftsmanship,” the company states. The publication is available in a debossed Otabind softcover format.
In addition to the book, Birkenstock is introducing a digital brand encyclopedia, an interactive, mobile-friendly platform that expands on the book’s content. The microsite offers over 600 archival images and curated narratives, providing users the ability to filter by themes, time periods, and products. The platform highlights key milestones, VIP appearances, and editorial content, serving as a digital companion to the physical publication.
This dual initiative—both print and digital—offers an in-depth perspective on Birkenstock’s cultural impact and craftsmanship, inviting fans and newcomers alike to explore the brand’s rich history.
