Koma Takes Over from Walter Chiapponi After He Presented Just One Collection for the Italian Brand
David Koma has been appointed as the new creative director at Blumarine, with his first collection for the Italian brand set to debut for Pre-Fall 2025. Blumarine is not listed on the preliminary Milan Fashion Week schedule.
The Georgian-born designer, known for his sculptural silhouettes and bold cocktail dresses, recently celebrated his namesake brand’s 15th anniversary. Koma’s Resort 2025 ad campaign featuring Lourdes Leon has furthered the brand’s growing momentum, attracting fans like Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Rodrigo, and Gal Gadot.
During Comic-Con in July, Florence Pugh donned a David Koma t-shirt minidress from the resort 2025 collection, which featured a bedazzled buckle and train. Koma, who launched his London-based fashion house in 2009 after studying at Central Saint Martins College, has been a fixture at London Fashion Week.
In addition to his fashion endeavors, Koma recently collaborated on a swimwear brand called Let’s Swim. He also created looks for Beyoncé’s “Renaissance World Tour” in 2023.
“David Koma’s aesthetic captured me from the beginning. I am sure that David will be able to interpret Blumarine’s codes to perfection, thanks to his vision and stylistic sensitivity, characterized by an overwhelming femininity,” said Marco Marchi, sole director of Exelite, the holding company that owns Blumarine.
Koma takes over from Walter Chiapponi, succeeding the designer after only one collection.
