Bode Rec. and Nike Draws on a Long Tradition of Vintage American Sportswear
Bode has announced a special collaborative collection with Nike. Launching April 18th, “Bode Rec. and Nike” draws inspiration from vintage athletic styles and the history of American sportswear.
The capsule includes reimaginings of scrimmage jerseys, lace-up wool sweaters, track singlets, dickeys, track pants and running shorts, as well as a rework of the Nike Astrograbber sneaker, which was originally created in the ’70s following the development of artificial turf.
Creative director Emily Adams Bode has gained a status as a design icon for both contemporary fashion fans and lovers of vintage alike for her collections that make detailed reference to charming subsections of American craft history, workwear, and collegiate styles. For the Nike capsule, she dove into the archives and histories at Nike’s Oregon headquarters, as well as going back even further to reference some of the first sporting events that followed the birth of the United States, like the Manhattan and Cape Cod boat race of 1756, and going all the way through to the 70s, when the proliferation of television expanded the way Americans interacted with and participated in sports and sporting culture.
The Bode Rec. and Nike collection will be available from April 18 at Bode’s website and in select Bode retailers, and from May 1st on the Nike Snkrs app and in select Nike retailers.
