Review of Calvin Klein Mingyu Denim Fall 2025 Ad Campaign by Photographer/Director Torso with K-pop star Mingyu
Calvin Klein plays its familiar card this Fall—an iconic face, an exposed torso, and the trusted alchemy of denim and desire. This time, it’s K-pop star Mingyu who takes center stage, smoldering through a series of sleek yet stark portraits by photographer-director duo Torso. The brand clearly understands the power of Mingyu’s global fanbase and their appetite for his every gesture, but unfortunately, they seem to rely entirely on that gravitational pull—at the expense of crafting anything particularly new or memorable.

There’s no denying the visual polish: a steely, studio-set atmosphere, heavy speakers as set pieces, and Mingyu layered in double-denim styled with Calvin’s signature underwear peeking at just the right angle. The collection itself does present some thoughtful updates—particularly the CK Emblem all-over print, which retools the house’s monogram into a striking graphic pattern. But while the garments flirt with the future, the campaign itself feels tethered to a formula long past its expiration date.
It’s all surface. No narrative. No wink. No seduction. Just a pretty face posed in front of props.

In a market where peers like Loewe, Diesel, or even Gap (in their current Katseye campaign) are embracing risk, play, or cultural commentary, Calvin Klein’s effort feels like a safe bet with no boldness behind it. A campaign with Mingyu could have explored movement, energy, youth rebellion, or emotional edge—anything to elevate the visuals beyond the realm of ‘editorial filler.’
Instead, what we’re left with is a reminder: it’s one thing to book a superstar; it’s another thing to do something with him.
