Review of Chanel Fall 2023 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Virginie Viard with Photographer Inez & Vinoodh with Talent Loli-Bahia
Loli-Bahia is the face of the campaign for the Fall-Winter 2023/24 Ready-to-Wear collection by Virginie Viard. The model is directed by Inez & Vinoodh in a series of images in motion, alternating between black and white and colour. “Loli-Bahia is the very embodiment of the Chanel woman,” says the duo. “Eccentric, daring, androgynous… A mix of delicacy and quiet strength.”
The romanticism of the camellia – an eternal code at the House – inspired the collection. It appears embossed on denim Bermuda shorts, sprinkled in contrast over a tweed jacket, embroidered on a satin jacket, printed on a long jersey dress and on a pair of boots. Its gentle palette of colours features a dusky pink skirt in chiffon and velvet; a red, black and white dress in crêpe de Chine trimmed with white flounces on the sleeves… The silhouettes also adopt certain codes of menswear, from the attitude of a shorts-suit to a short tweed checked jacket combined with the asymmetry of a long silk slit skirt. Everywhere, movement is free and harmonious.
“This campaign reminds me of the nineties, of vintage chic, of the emergence of new silhouettes. The hairstyles and make-up are perfect examples,” says Loli-Bahia. “I’m really impressed by the power of the photos taken by Inez & Vinoodh.” Images that shed new light on the Chanel allure.
