Edited by Sofia Coppola, the volume traces the House’s history from Gabrielle Chanel to the present
Chanel is set to release Chanel Haute Couture, a new volume edited by filmmaker Sofia Coppola in collaboration with the House and Éditions 7L. The book traces the history of Chanel Haute Couture from the early twentieth century to the present, featuring fashion photography, previously unseen sketches, runway images, behind-the-scenes documents, and archival material.
Coppola’s connection with Chanel began at age fifteen, when she undertook a summer internship in the “Chanel Creation Studio in Paris.” Over the years, her relationship with the House has included several creative collaborations, culminating in this latest project. The filmmaker brings her signature style of visual storytelling, combining collage and assemblage, to present a history of Chanel Haute Couture.
The 450-page volume includes photographs of friends of the House and iconic models from multiple decades, showcasing designs by Gabrielle Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, and Virginie Viard. The book was produced with support from Chanel and designed by Anamaria Morris for Joseph Logan Design. It is co-published by Éditions 7L and Important Flowers, Coppola’s publishing imprint at the house of MACK, and will be launched worldwide on 8 September 2025.
