Iconic Fashion Meets Timeless Interior Design in a Burst of Color
New York based designer and LVMH Prize finalist Christopher John Rogers, is taking a vibrant leap into the realm of interior design with a fresh collaboration with renowned paint and wallpaper creators, Farrow & Ball. Aptly named ‘Carte Blanche’, this French term which literally stands for “blank paper” perfectly represents Rogers’ innovative entrance into home décor.
Launching this September, this avant-garde collection is a fusion of Rogers’ signature bright and playful aesthetic with the expert craftsmanship of Farrow & Ball. Just as his clothing resonates a perfect balance between glamour and practicality, this paint and wallpaper collection effortlessly captures this playful essence but fine-tuned for interiors.
I adore creating garments that serve as tools for self-expression – directional and assertive but never dictating. This Carte Blanche collection echoes this sentiment.
Christopher John Rogers
His inspiration is rooted in his personal archives and an array of swatches, which channel his unique and joyous vibe into the vast potential of a blank canvas like an untouched wall.
Having a profound appreciation for art, from the likes of Ellsworth Kelly to comic book character outfits, Rogers has intertwined fond memories of family and food into this collaboration. This translates into a heartwarming vision of home as a serene refuge.
Showcasing a palette of four neutrals, eight vivid shades, and three lively wallpaper patterns, the collection offers a varied range. Among the standout paint hues are the Lobster and Pea Flower Tea blues, Raw Tomatillo green, Hog Plum yellow, and Romesco crimson. The wallpaper designs showcase geometric creativity, from intriguing dots to elongated stripes and Bauhaus-inspired checks reminiscent of Anni Albers’ groundbreaking work. Each wallpaper showcases a tactile finish, stemming from the hand-painted process at Farrow & Ball’s Dorset Factory. Rogers stated that with these craftsman products, customers can envision spaces that range from purely neutral to dazzlingly colorful, or anything in between.
Marrying functionality with aesthetic, the paint offers a range of finishes suited to various spaces, from the ultra-matt Dead Flat® to the mould-resistant Modern Emulsion ideal for kitchens and bathrooms. Crafted with precision, the paint maintains a balance of pigments with a low-odour, low-VOC water base, prioritizing environmental considerations without compromising durability.
This collaboration is a harmonious blend of classic and contemporary, intertwining Farrow & Ball’s 75-year-old traditional techniques with Rogers’ modern, pop-art influence. “The idea was to broaden the CJR universe beyond just clothing. Venturing into home décor was a timely and exciting step,” Rogers expressed.
When the two creative forces came together, their shared passion for color, longevity, and design made the collaboration an obvious choice. “Collaborations with individuals who share your vision are always a joy,” Rogers mentioned.
Our mutual respect for craftsmanship and attention to detail ensured this venture would be unique. Carte Blanche is all about empowering people to craft their distinct style and relishing the journey.
