Review of Contessa Mills ‘Luxury Handbag ‘World Bag’ 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Contessa Mills with Photographer Jacques Burga and model Georgia Fowler
Contessa Mills celebrates the launch of her first handbag with a cosmopolitan campaign by photographer Jacques Burga.
Sharing its name with the designer’s Fall 2024 collection, which was inspired by the World tarot card, the World bag forms a circular shape that suggests both the globe and a crescent moon, subtly pointing to themes of connection, renewal, and femininity.
Georgia Fowler embodies the sophisticated and mystical Contessa Mills woman in Burga’s portraits. Shot with a glowing photographic perspective, she embodies the bag’s spirit both in simple studio shots and in exterior shots framed against the skyline of the brand’s home of New York. Dried flowers are used as a frequent set design and styling element, extending a mood of delicate, ephemeral beauty.
While a more direct presence of the collection’s and bag’s unique inspiration in tarot could have made for a strong conceptual boost, the imagery does successfully serve to convey the character of the bag and how it forms a key milestone in the expanding world of Contessa Mills.
