Shibori Craftsmanship Revives in Cos Capsule Collection
Partnering for the first time with Japanese artisan Kazuki Tabata, an expert in binding, folding, and dyeing cloth, Cos has launched a limited-edition summer capsule collection that highlights the shibori resist-dyeing craft.
Tabata, one of the last traditional practitioners of shibori, expressed concern over the decline of the craft due to various economic factors and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on artisans.
When approached by Cos for the collaboration, Tabata initially thought it was a prank but hopes that people will appreciate the designs and the background of traditional crafts.
The capsule features 14 pieces including clothing and accessories for both men and women, showcasing Tabata’s expertise in shibori techniques such as “sekka,” a hexagonal geometric design.
The collection will be globally available online from June 5 and in various Cos stores across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America, with prices ranging from $89 to $285.
