Diesel’s Behind the Denim Sustainability

Diesel’s Deep Dive Into Sustainability

Episode 4 of ‘Behind the Denim’ Explores Regenerative Farming Practices

Diesel continues its exploration of sustainable denim production in Episode 4 of its five-part mini docuseries, Behind the Denim. This episode, titled Sow the Seed, focuses on regenerative farming, a key practice in the brand’s sustainability efforts.

In the episode, host Lea Ogunlami and Andrea Rosso, Diesel’s Sustainability Ambassador, visit a regenerative farm near Seville, Spain, to understand the role this farming method plays in creating more sustainable fashion. They meet with farmers Michael and Rafa, who explain how regenerative agriculture works to build healthy soil and promote a balanced ecosystem through natural processes.

“Regenerative farming is about working with nature, not against it,” says Rosso, emphasizing how this method uses significantly fewer pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers compared to conventional cotton farming.

Diesel has been working to reduce its environmental impact through its sustainability strategy, For Responsible Living, introduced in 2020. As part of this initiative, over 50 percent of Diesel’s denim garments are now made from organic, recycled, or regenerative cotton. This includes pieces from the Diesel Library collection, launched in 2022, which showcases timeless designs crafted with eco-friendly materials.

Next year, Rosso and Ogunlami could be wearing denim made from the very cotton they helped sow in this episode. “It’s the regenerative revolution,” adds Rosso, signaling Diesel’s commitment to the future of sustainable fashion.

The series will conclude with Episode 5, where Ogunlami delves into the concept of circularity, exploring how denim scraps can be reused in the production process to close the loop on waste.
