The Multi-Hyphenate Icon Steps Into the Role as Charlize Theron Transitions Into a New Ambassadorship at the House
Dior has announced Rihanna as the new face of its J’Adore perfume. The singer, businesswoman, and fashion icon follows actress Charlize Theron, who, after being the face of the fragrance for two decades, took on the role of jewelry and skincare ambassador at Dior in May.
Rihanna characterized her new role as “both an honor and a mission.” She stated, “The scent, that I have known and loved for so long, means so much to women,” She further added, “I am especially looking forward to joining this adventure and contributing to it through my world, my story, my roots, as well as my creativity and my own femininity.”
Speaking to the new appointment, CEO of Parfums Christian Dior Véronique Courtois said, “Since its creation in 1999, J’Adore has always been embodied by powerful, triumphant, inspiring women. The choice of Rihanna to be the next face of J’Adore was obvious for us. Not only is she one of the greatest and most powerful artists of all times, she is also multitalented, a successful entrepreneur, a committed humanitarian, a mother of two, and a singular beauty.”
Wearing multiple hats, Rihanna’s achievements range from winning nine Grammy Awards and 13 American Music Awards to being the first woman to have 10 songs hit 1 billion streams on Spotify. She also founded a non-profit organization, the Clara Lionel Foundation, focusing on global education and climate change issues. Her wide-spanning endeavors also include her own fashion house, Fenty, Fenty Beauty, roles in films, and honorary ambassadorship from her homeland Barbados.
Commenting on the star’s diverse accomplishments, Courtois said,
In one word, she is a model of female empowerment, an inspiring figure all over the world for all generations. Besides, she is a longstanding friend of the house, and she’s had an intimate bond with J’Adore since she was a little girl, which gives an extra meaning to this sincere collaboration.
Rihanna has previously worked with Dior, starring in the house’s ‘Secret Garden IV’ campaign and working jointly on a sunglasses collection. This association reaffirms Courtois’ belief that Dior has always been synonymous with iconic figures, princesses, and queens of their times.
Rihanna’s debut campaign for J’Adore was photographed by Steven Klein and is set to be unveiled on September 1. Courtois hasn’t revealed much but promises a blend of thrill, desire, grandeur with an unexpected twist.
On Charlize Theron’s transition within her longstanding Dior ambassadorship, Courtois said, “Charlize is continuing her longstanding ambassadorship with Dior lending her timeless charisma and beauty to key luxury categories: jewelry and skin care. And she will also be taking on the role as spokesperson for the house on matters of sustainable development, as well as supporting philanthropic initiatives.”
