Review of Dior Pre-Fall Collection 2024 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Margot Populaire and Art Director Christina Sulpizio Photographer Collier Schorr
Dior explores duality and archetypes with its new Pre-Fall 2024 women’s campaign, which was shot by photographer Collier Schorr with creative direction from Margot Populaire.
Schorr’s portraits subtly continue the exploration of what historical feminine codes mean for a contemporary woman that has resolutely been at the heart of creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s vision for the house. That idea of duality is directly contained in the layout and portrait approach, which sets a black-and-white photograph side-by-side with a color photograph. In each spread, one image features a look that draws on and reconsiders typical “menswear” garments – a trench coat or a tuxedo jacket, for example – while the other look features an embellished dress that feels more classically feminine.
Rather than creating a juxtaposition, the images work together to create a cohesive visual world and to say that, rather than being subject to reductive categories, femininity and fashion expression is actually something that rises out of and beyond the codes that shape it.
It’s a simple yet cleverly conceived visual idea that taps into the elegance of classic portraiture while bringing a modern and distinctly Dior spin.
