On Friday evening Valentino staged their Fall 2022 Couture show on the iconic Spanish Steps in the eternal city. The show seemed well welcomed by the onlookers flocking to catch a glimps at the collection and notable atendees. A seemingly normal event for the industry, however the house of Dior who holds a flagship at Piazza Di Spagna, across from the steps, found the site troublesome.

Prior to the event the shopkeepers in the area had previously been reasured in a letter from Valentino that the show would not interfere with their usual foottrafic, however the day of the show Dior found their store empty, and shoppers denied access. The french house is seeking compensation from Valentino for the disruption to their buisness, the sum of 100,000 euros is requested witin 15 days.

Customers were “refused access and blocked at the barriers,” according to Dior, so the store “remained empty and could not operate from the early hours of the afternoon,” a fact Dior claimed was “amplified” by the event being scheduled on a Friday, “a day when surely proceeds are [significant].” If Valentino does not pay the amount within two weeks, Dior has stated that it will “adopt all necessary measures to protect its rights.”

Pierpaolo and Maria Grazia Chuiri worked together at Valentino and are said to be friendly.
