Dior's Cruise 2024 Unveiled in Exclusive Documentary

Dior Unveils Cruise Mexico Documentary

Discover the hands behind the tapestry as Dior unveils the meticulous craftsmanship in Mexico

Dior is set to transport fashion enthusiasts into the heart of its cruise show in Mexico last May with a captivating documentary titled “Dior Metamorphosis (Concealing and Revealing).” The hour-long film provides a unique glimpse into the communities where skilled weavers meticulously maintain ancient textile traditions, a central theme in Maria Grazia Chiuri’s collection.

Creative director Chiuri collaborated with Circe Henestrosa, renowned curator and designer, to select artisans from diverse native groups. The documentary highlights key contributors, including Narcy Areli Morales, founder of Rocinante clothing brand, who led Mixtec women in San Lucas Redención, Oaxaca, to craft the intricate “pepenado fruncido” embroidery.

Weaver and anthropology student Hilán Cruz Cruz, from the Nahua community in Tlacomulco, played a pivotal role in perpetuating the “pepenado hilván” technique, shaping geometric patterns on Dior’s shirts and dresses. The film captures his journey to the Dior workshops in Paris, where the exquisite looks took form.

Pedro Meza, founder of Sna Jolobil, oversaw the creation of a gabán tunic, a fusion of traditional Mayan art and Dior’s iconic Bar jacket. Comprising 800 women weavers from 20 Indigenous communities, Sna Jolobil focuses on preserving Mayan art through the study and recreation of ancient textiles and weaving methods.

The documentary also introduces Remigio Mestas, a dedicated weaver supervising the crafting of four huipils, showcasing the expertise of various Indigenous groups. Produced by Urdimbre Audiovisual, the film sheds light on the collaboration between Mexican artist Elina Chauvet and Chiuri, resulting in a stunning sequence of dresses displayed at La Galerie Dior in Paris.

Fashion enthusiasts can catch the premiere of the cruise 2024 behind-the-scenes documentary on Dior’s YouTube channel at 3 p.m. CET on Wednesday, featuring a live chat option for an immersive experience. Subsequently, the documentary will be available on Dior’s YouTube account for a closer look at the creative journey behind this extraordinary collection.
