In response to the show, Lynn University’s associate professor of marketing, Andrew Burnstine, highlighted the intersection of politics, technology, and celebrity culture. Burnstine emphasized how Musk’s virtual runway show serves as a creative commentary on fashion, politics, and advanced technology.
Carl-Axel Wahlström, creative director at The Copy Lab, praised the video as a creative use of generative AI and hoped that powerful figures would be inspired to express themselves through fashion. He noted that technology can enable new ways to mix ideas, styles, and trends in fashion.
The virtual show featured AI-generated versions of prominent figures like Jeff Bezos, Tim Cook, and Mark Zuckerberg, each with their unique runway looks. The show aimed to make a statement about public figures’ personas and public perceptions through fashion.
Musk, known for his interest in fashion, posted the virtual runway show in a bid to use fashion to make a statement about politics in a relatable manner. While Musk’s mother Maye has a background in modeling, she chose not to comment on the post.
The show also included a character inspired by former president Barack Obama with 13 unique ensembles, each contributing to the commentary on fashion and politics through AI technology.
