Review of Fendi Spring 2025 Ad Campaign by Photographer Steven Meisel with models Karolina Spakowski, Lina Zhang, Mona Tougaard
A flower blooms in Rome: Fendi’s new Spring 2025 campaign balances classic motifs of Italian beauty with a fresh energy. The imagery was lensed by photographer Steven Meisel.
Meisel’s portraits capture a trio of Fendi muses – Karolina Spakowski, Lina Zhang, and Mona Tougaard – smiling brightly on a bench before a pink wall. In their hands, they hold a flower that extends a central motif from the collection, while the fig branches that extend into the scene delicately frame the compositions and put us in the mind of classical Roman iconography.
The accompanying short film sets these portraits in motion to a dreamily low-key pop soundtrack. With more space to emphasize the details, the video also puts a smart emphasis on Fendi’s elevated take on the hyper-personalized bag charm trend.
For as much of a history that the house of Fendi has, its campaigns tend to be much more visually straightforward than conceptual or narrative-driven. This isn’t inherently a bad thing; the brand’s image is extremely consistent and it does do good work to convey its heritage through the designs themselves. But we can’t help but feel like there might be some missed opportunity. Through just a hint of fig trees, upswept hair, and big smiles, this campaign put us in the mind of vintage Roman beauty seen through a contemporary perspective. It would be exciting to see Fendi dig a little deeper at this intersection, not just depicting the codes of cultural history, but revitalizing their stories.
