Class is in session: Rihanna throws it back to school days with a new campaign for the latest sneaker drop – the Creeper Phatty – from the collaboration between her brand Fenty and Puma. Not only does Rihanna herself star in the campaign, but she’s listed two other icons: Anjelica Huston and Chloe Cherry.
Cleverly conceived as a playful ode to the dreaded school picture day, the campaign takes an avant-garde edge to rethinking Breakfast Club-esque high-school archetypes. Rihanna poses with an awesome oversized bow and button-up; Chloe Cherry is a jaded mall goth; Anjelica Huston is imposing as a suit-clad teacher. Other thoughtful details lend humor and nostalgia to the compositions, like a cameo from a pet guinea pig or a bedazzled homework binder.
Starting with a familiar aesthetic theme and thoroughly exploring its possibilities with a rich attention to detail and warm sense of humor, the campaign is a charming yet strikingly stylish showcase of how the right footwear helps one look their best on the days when it most counts. It may be summer break, but Rihanna has us almost wanting to get back in school.
