Review of Ferrari Fall 2022 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Rocco Iannone
Ferrari continues its engine-revving push into the fashion world with a new campaign for its second ready-to-wear collection, for Fall 2022.
The campaign imagery highlights the technical details and powerful energy of the collection, matching its use of futuristic sustainable fabrics, heat-scanner and circuitry graphics, metallic details, and reference to the driver’s uniform with visual effects like long exposure, motion blur, and lens flare to create a feeling of speed and high-octane style.
Though slick and dynamic, the studio-portraiture approach might mark a missed opportunity to capitalize on Ferrari’s history and narrative. There is a rich cultural legacy around this brand, and digging into it could have helped the young fashion line establish a more recognizable brand identity and values. Iannone’s first collection was presented at the Ferrari manufacturing plant; would this same spot not have been an excellent backdrop for a campaign?
That being said, this decision could be part of an understandable push to let the fashion collection exist on its own terms. No doubt its design is deeply connected to Ferrari iconography and racing aesthetics, but it is a strong style statement of its own. Perhaps as the house continues to gain traction and drive on, we will see a stronger balance of these two worlds.
