Gabriela Hearst Debuts First 100% Recycled Cotton Denim

New silhouettes and seasonal colors spotlight sustainability and cultural homage

Gabriela Hearst is expanding its sustainable materials offering with the introduction of its first line of 100% recycled cotton denim. Launching July 7, the denim will be available in stores across New York, Beverly Hills, London, and Tokyo, as well as online at gabrielahearst.com.

The collection features six colorways inspired by Spanish housepaint pigments gifted to Hearst by filmmaker Clara Cullen. Seasonal shades include cobalt blue, golden birch, antelope orange, burnt sienna, white, and a medium-wash indigo dubbed “Uruguayan blue,” a nod to the designer’s homeland.

Each style is crafted from 100% recycled cotton, using a dyeing process that requires less electricity and relies on a circular water filtration system to reduce waste. Pieces are hand-treated with an ecological wash and garment-dyed in seasonal hues, resulting in a fabric that balances sustainability with design precision.

The offering includes three silhouettes—Ezra (cropped bootcut), Rey (straight-leg), and Willa (long bootcut)—all with a lightweight feel, 5-pocket construction, and custom brass buttons inlaid with wood. The buttons are removable for ease of care and machine washing.

Styled by Camilla Nickerson and photographed by Cathy Kasterine, the collection will also appear as part of a collaboration with Net-a-Porter.
