Review of Gucci ‘Beauty and The Bag’ 2026 Ad Campaign by Gucci Creative Director Demna with Photographer Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and models Emily Ratajkowski, Kate Moss
Logomania has returned with intention—and under Demna, Gucci treats it with a knowing wink, leaning into excess and reframing it as something self-aware, even seductive.
Captured by Mert and Marcus, the campaign centers on the house’s handbags as objects of fixation. Kate Moss and Emily Ratajkowski move through tightly composed portraits where the GG monogram repeats across bags, garments, and background, building a sense of saturation that feels deliberate rather than decorative. The styling follows suit, shifting from restraint to full immersion, as if the logo itself is setting the terms of the image.
The films, directed by Bardia Zeinali, extend that logic into motion. The bags multiply, surround, and accumulate, turning desire into something ambient. The repetition reinforces the campaign’s thesis. It also exposes its limits. Moss and Ratajkowski are placed into near-identical narratives, differentiated only by the bags they carry. The choice creates cohesion, but it flattens the very individuality that makes their presence meaningful. If the casting signals cultural weight, the execution leaves little room for it to register.
What works is the clarity. Demna understands the current appetite for bold, recognizable codes and leans into them with precision. What lingers, is a sense of untapped potential. These are figures with distinct identities, histories, and associations. The campaign acknowledges their presence but stops short of engaging with it. The result feels less like a dialogue between house and individual and more like alignment at the surface.
Gucci’s latest chapter is confident in its stance. It embraces excess and makes it feel intentional. The next step may be to let that intention expand—allowing the people within the image to shape the narrative as much as the objects they carry.
