New Omotesandō flagship blends Japanese craftsmanship with global refinement
Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) has opened its first gallery in Japan, a three-story flagship in Tokyo’s Omotesandō district. The space, designed in collaboration with Shinichiro Ogata of Simplicity, blends minimalism and tradition, embodying the Japanese concepts of Kaizen and Takumi.
The gallery features Hinoki wood interiors, calligraphy by Daichiro Shinjo, and handcrafted furnishings by Hervet Manufacturier. Displays juxtapose Japanese and Western artifacts—including Edo-period painted screens, 13th-century samurai armor, and Navajo rugs—creating a museum-like environment. Dedicated areas showcase eyewear, jewelry, and made-to-measure programs, alongside a whisky bar and tea service.
The opening was marked by an intimate celebration that included a surprise performance by Kim Gordon, a kaiseki dinner at Yakumo Saryō, and a late-night gathering at Bar Casba. Guests included tattoo artist Mark Mahoney, musician Lou Doillon, Yasiin Bey, and press representatives from Numéro Tokyo, WWD Japan, and Vogue Japan. Attendees were gifted limited-edition JMM frames in custom packaging.
“The concepts of Kaizen and Takumi—the ways of constant improvement and masterful artisanship—have been central to JMM since the very beginning,” said founder and creative director Jérôme Mage. “For Tokyo, we’ve embraced a minimalist, meditative approach—one that reflects our reverence for Japanese tradition.”
The Omotesandō-Tokyo Gallery, located at 5-9-7 Jingumae, Shibuya-Ku, will welcome visitors daily from August 26, 2025.
