Review of Jean Paul Gaultier ‘Dress Like Jean Paul’ Spring 2023 Ad Campaign by Creative Director Florence Tetier with Photographer Grant James-Thomas with Talent Alexis Stone
Alexis Stone embodies Jean Paul Gaultier – literally – in the brand’s latest campaign. The campaign features creative direction by Florence Tetier and photography by Grant James-Thomas.
Drag queen Alexis Stone is famous for wizard-like makeup and prosthetic skills, which she uses to transform into an array of characters, from familiar celebrity faces to outlandish fantasy creations.
This campaign sees her put her skills to work as she becomes Mr. Gaultier himself, wearing not just some of the designer’s most iconic nautical motifs, but his face as well. In the guise of JPG, Stone exuberantly takes over the streets of Paris.
“I have always perceived the work of Jean Paul Gaultier as free and assumed. His creations encourage you to be yourself, whoever you are. This is exactly what fashion should inspire when it is done well. And that’s why transforming myself into Jean Paul Gaultier was easy, because I see myself in this community that he has created.”
– Alexis Stone
The campaign fittingly arrives just one day ahead of the debut of the brand’s upcoming collection, which is set to draw inspiration from the personal style of JPG himself. Putting a fun twist on this idea, the campaign is a playful ode to personal style and the freedom to be whomever you want to be.
