Loewe celebrated International Women’s Day with a special studio-swap series between innovative woman artists. Each of the artists selected have been shortlisted for previous annual editions of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize.
The first studio swap sees fiber artist Luz Moreno Pinart visit textile artist Simone Pheulpin, giving us a firsthand look at the latter’s intricate wrapping techniques that transform simple strips of fabric into mesmerizing organic sculptures. Then Pheulpin visits Pinart’s studio, where she is guided through the inspiration and process for the artist’s latest series of knit sculptures created from paper fibers.
The second studio swap features ceramicist Akiko Hirai and wood sculptor Eleanor Lakelin. Lakelin shows how her technique involves responding to and revealing the natural burl effect within horse chestnut trees, while Hirai’s experimental ceramic vessels also tap into the spontaneity and chaos of nature.
