Loewe Opens New Flagship Store in Shanghai

Loewe has inaugurated Casa Loewe Shanghai, its largest flagship store in Asia, located in the bustling Jing’an district at the intersection of Nanjing West and Changde Road. Spanning 695 square meters, the new store features a comprehensive range of products including men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, bags, small leather goods, soft accessories, eyewear, shoes, jewelry, scarves, shawls, home scents, and exclusive store-specific items.

The design of Casa Loewe Shanghai is a continuation of the Casa Loewe concept, which merges fashion, design, and art in a unique retail experience. The store’s exterior boasts a shimmering gold ceramic facade made from handcrafted, enamelled tiles from Spain, designed to reflect light dynamically. Inside, the store’s decor includes metallic ceramic walls and a color palette of white, brown, gold, orange, and green, enhanced by natural lighting through transparent walls. The interior design balances the coolness of glass and concrete with the warmth of marble, brass, and oak.

The furniture selection in Casa Loewe Shanghai includes both antique and contemporary pieces, such as Gerrit Thomas Rietveld’s Utrecht armchairs, Oliver Gustav linen sofas, custom felt Berin Club chairs, and George Nakashima’s high chairs and walnut cushion chairs. Axel Vervoordt’s floating stone table complements Loewe’s burnt wood podiums and black terrazzo tables. Decorative elements also include Isamu Noguchi’s Akari E hanging lamps and bespoke wool rugs from Spain featuring designs by British textile artist John Allen.

Casa Loewe Shanghai is not just a store but a gallery-like space showcasing an eclectic mix of art, craft, and sculpture. The store features works by British ceramicists John Ward and Mo Jupp, Chinese sculptor Dong Han, Japanese bamboo weaver Hafu Matsumoto, and German woodworker Ernst Gamperl, among others. These pieces explore the interplay between craft and the natural environment. Other artworks on display include Ken Price’s ink and acrylic compositions, Mahesh Baliga’s paintings, Merlin James’ works, etchings by Paul Thek, mixed media pieces by Uri Aran, Christodoulos Panayiotou’s natural stone mosaics, and Jordan Belson’s pigmented studies of the moon. An oak Liberty ‘Tudor’ table by Edwin T Hall adds a touch of historical elegance to the space.

Future additions to the store will include Takayuki Sakiyama’s stoneware sculpture Chōtō and Dahye Jong’s horsehair and stainless-steel spheres from the Loewe Lamps Project.
