Loewe Releases Puzzle Bag Collection for 10th Anniversary

Puzzle 10 includes 19 re-editions and one new design, available May 29

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Puzzle bag, Loewe is releasing the Puzzle 10 collection, composed of 19 reissued designs from previous collections and one new design. The launch highlights the bag’s original design and various past iterations, each selected to represent distinct periods of experimentation and craftsmanship.

The collection emphasizes Loewe’s focus on craft through techniques such as leather marquetry, embroidery, appliqué, and cross-stitch. Each limited-edition bag is fitted with a commemorative metal plaque and two balloon charms. One new entry, the Confetti bag, features hand-applied leather and metal sequins in a design linked to the Fall Winter 2023 collaboration with artist Lara Favaretto’s installation Midsommar.

Loewe introduced the Puzzle on the Spring Summer 2015 runway after it first appeared in the men’s line. The FW15 Re-edition, formed in pink camaieu suede with a black base, represents the first fully realized version. Other re-editions include the Anime Puzzle from SS16, referencing Japanese animation, and the Multicolour Puzzle from SS17, using color blocking to highlight the bag’s geometry.

The Cloud Puzzle from SS17 features a printed cloudscape and was part of a surrealist campaign shot by Steven Meisel. The Paula’s Ibiza Parrot edition draws on archive prints from the namesake boutique and uses patchwork denim and leather intarsia. The William Morris version combines florals with punk design references, including belts and studs.

The Patchwork Puzzle from SS18 mixes cross-stitch, suede, canvas, and words such as “WELCOME” on the shoulder strap. SS18’s Runway Puzzle incorporates green suede and embroidered playing cards, dice, and horseshoes. The Varsity version mimics a sports shoe, complete with laces and a varsity “L” patch.

The Polka Puzzle from FW18 features leather dots created with intarsia techniques. The Mackintosh edition from SS19 references the Scottish artist’s stained-glass style through leatherwork. The Cowboy Puzzle from FW19 uses abstract Western boot motifs in layers of white, black, and blue leather.

The Plumeria Puzzle, based on Hawaiian quilting traditions, includes layered leather flowers secured with knots. The William De Morgan version shows a leather-embroidered dandelion based on the artist’s ceramic work. The Tartan Puzzle from FW20 uses wool jacquard tartan, fringing, and leather piping.

The Ken Price Puzzle applies intarsia to depict a stylized Los Angeles cityscape. Joe Brainard’s re-edition features pansy graphics in leather and suede. The Kiwi Puzzle from Paula’s Ibiza 2021 simplifies the fruit into overlapping leather segments.

The Pixel Puzzle from SS23 simulates a digital glitch using printed squares in grayscale tones. The final design, the Confetti Puzzle, employs hand-applied pastel leather discs on a navy leather base, directly referencing Favaretto’s confetti-based art installation.

The Puzzle 10 collection launches May 29 in select stores, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and South Coast Plaza. A Bergdorf Goodman pop-up will feature themed re-editions, displayed in the Fifth Avenue windows and the store’s Luxury Room.
